Her story

The hand that made it a home

Behind every pillar Rockcliff Christie raised, there was a hand that made it a home. That hand is Pearl Christie — Shabela Pearl Christie, born to humble parents in Number 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice — the support and guiding force behind every Little Rock business.

She was the interior designer of her husband’s buildings — where he engineered the structure, she gave it warmth, taste, and welcome; the engineer built the walls, and Pearl made them a place people wanted to stay. That partnership is the whole story of Little Rock: his creation, her care.

She is not a figure of the past. Today, Pearl still actively manages and runs the day-to-day operations of the Little Rock Suites herself — the same steady, unglamorous, essential work she has done for decades.

She is the support. She is the backbone of our family.

Naomi Christie, on her mother

Widowed in November 2020, Pearl carries the family and its businesses forward with her daughter, Naomi — the matriarch of Little Rock, and the quiet force who made an empire feel like home. A book honoring her life, the support and backbone of our family, is being written.

Her story, in her daughter’s words: The Magic of Pearl

The Magic of Pearl — book cover

The Magic of Pearl — A Daughter’s Tribute to Pearl Christie, the Backbone of Our Family by Naomi E. Christie. She held the pillars while the world admired the roof; this is the book that finally lets her be seen — the coast of Number 19 that made her, the crossing she was brave enough to walk, the buildings she made warm, and the quiet, unthanked strength that holds a whole family standing.
