The 88.5 Rock FM programme guide — every show, every host, every hour

Stories & Guides · The station week

What is on 88.5 Rock FM at every hour of the week, who presents it, and every way to listen — in Berbice on the dial, or anywhere in the world online.

88.5 Rock FM — Berbice’s very own. The lowest frequency in the country, the highest in our hearts.

88.5 Rock FM went on air on 29 March 2014 as the first radio station transmitting from the county of Berbice. It runs a full week of live, presenter-led programming from the Little Rock studio in New Amsterdam.

This is that week, written out in full. Times are Guyana time (GYT, UTC−4 — Guyana does not observe daylight saving, so the schedule is the same all year).

Monday to Friday

7:30 – 10:00 a.m. · Morning Spice

with Maximum & Delon

The breakfast show, and the busiest block on the station. Morning Spice carries people through getting ready, the school run and the opening of shops — music, chat and the day’s business. If you are listening from abroad, this is the one that sounds most like home.

10:00 – 11:00 a.m. · Spicy

with Spicy & Maximum

A single, distinct hour: the Spicy meditation and information shows, one for each day of the week. Slower than the show either side of it, and deliberately so.

11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. · Lunch Munch

with Shakala & DJ Slata

Three hours through the middle of the day, and the show most likely to be playing where people work. Team Lunch Munch broadcasts live from 10 Street as well as from the studio, which makes it the station’s most visible programme — the one people walk past.

2:00 – 4:00 p.m. · The Meltdown

with Lovena & DJ Slata

The afternoon block, running into the start of the school and work exodus.

4:00 – 6:00 p.m. · No Rush

with Selector Genius & Delon

Drive time, at the pace the name suggests. Selector Genius handles the music.

6:00 – 9:00 p.m. · Get Loose

with Keifer & Shakala

Three hours of evening programming — the station’s highest-energy weekday block.

9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. · The Nightshift Owls 🦉

with Elijah & DJ Smally

Late-night radio, for shift workers, students, drivers and everyone still awake. It runs to midnight.

Saturday

6:00 – 9:00 a.m. · Morning Ginger

The weekend starts early in Berbice — market day, and the station starts an hour and a half earlier than it does on a weekday.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. · Talk Out Loud

The TOL Talk Show. Three hours of talk radio: issues, callers and conversation. This is the station’s discussion programme, and the one to catch if you want to hear what Berbice is actually arguing about this week.

12:00 – 4:00 p.m. · Lunch Crunch

Saturday afternoon, four hours of it.

Sunday

6:00 – 9:00 a.m. · Morning Glory

The Sunday morning programme.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. · Soul Regeneration

Sunday mid-morning — the reflective block.

12:00 – 4:00 p.m. · Smooth Rotation

Sunday afternoon: the easiest listening of the week, running to four.

Getting on the air yourself

Two ways, both free.

Send a greeting. The Rock Room is the station’s live greetings wall at lrtvs.gy/rockroom. Post a greeting — with a song request if you like — tick “read this on air”, and when a DJ reads it you get a notification telling you who read it and when. There is a full guide to how the Rock Room works.

Call in. Talk Out Loud on Saturday mornings takes callers. The station numbers are 592-333-4758, 592-333-3758 and 592-333-4445, and WhatsApp is +592 741-4911.

A note on the schedule

Live radio moves. Public holidays, elections, outside broadcasts, cricket and community events all displace the normal schedule, and Little Rock Studio produces live event broadcasts that pre-empt regular programming when something is happening in New Amsterdam.

The version above is the station’s published guide as it stands. If you are planning around a particular hour — to catch a show, or to place an advertisement in it — confirm on the day by messaging +592 741-4911.

Where the shows are made

Everything on this page comes out of Little Rock Studio in New Amsterdam, which also produces the programmes on LRTVS Channel 10 and the station’s outside broadcasts. You can see the studio’s output — school tours of the station, community announcements, live events — on the Little Rock Studio page.
